Waking up again, I smiled as I woke Nakla up. Today we get to try Yukatas and meet the Japanese summer students! After breakfast we had another ice breaking activity in the conference room. Our topic was about multicultural diversity and we were split into groups and were to create our own country flag to break stereotypes. Everyone was very creative in their own ways and created amazing ideas. Then after lunch, we had moved into a different meeting room and were to try on our Yukatas! I chose a different color combination which was Black/Pink since my last one was a Blue with Sakura patterns on it. We wore our Yukatas and took tons of photos all over campus, it was a hot day but we didn't care, we were slaying it!
After that we had a special history cultural session with one of the professors at APU who taught us about the history on Japan's films like Ghibli. After that was finally the time to meet the Japanese summer students. We proceeded to the meeting room and saw them. Some of us were alreading befriending tons and it was all going well! We then split into groups for another set of ice breaking activities. Memorizing names, to Chinese whispers, to a game of Rock Paper Scissors all did us well and brought us together. We even had a session with the Wadaiko (Japanes traditional drum) Club where they killed it in their performance. And we got to play their very own composed music which they will be playing at a local Matsuri (Festival) down town tonight! Getting the rhythm was a bit tricky at first but we did well!
After that was finally dinner time with the Japanese summer students and we all ate and talked to one another, it was really a great moment to remember. After that we were called to find out who our roommates were going to be. My new roommates were: Haruna, Koito, Kyoko, Saki, Hiyori, and Yukako! I found it easy to mingle with them and so I guided them to the room where we started adding one another's SNS accounts and we asked our hobbies and tried to communicate win each other's language. Haruna went on an exchange to America last year and Koito has visited Canada before so both of them had pretty decent English which was easy to communicate with. The others had good English so it's not like they knew no English at all. Tommorow will surely be another adventure, which is the Homestay at another town!
